8 mini zines I have made #2: I've got a job as the new Ravenmaster 22/1/21

In 2021 I learned about the Ravenmaster.

There is a TV documentary series called Inside the Tower of London (which, according to IMDB, had its ninth series this year, so it looks like it's still going strong) which had an episode that year featuring someone whose job it is to look after the Tower's six ravens. It is a role steeped in tradition and ritual, with a job title that could also belong to an '80s video game. The relationship the Ravenmaster develops with the birds while caring for them also sounds lovely.

8 mini zines I have made #1: The uncertain nature of comedy 15/2/25

I still can't believe that my friend had a paper version of the egg girl, my favourite stock image from the Internet, in amongst her collaging supplies. What a find! Making mini zines is one of my favourite, relatively healthy ways to decompress when my mind is refusing to quieten down. Crafting of any kind usually does the trick. Let's not get a head of ourselves For collage zines, I don't always start with an idea; I often just spend time scavenging and cutting out a load of images that I like until something resembling a theme emerges. This one's theme is, loosely, women and comedy. Was initially going to write something on the square paper bit on the left, but thought it looked better blank as it's a Busy Spread. If I don't have enough images of a specific thing to create some kind of pattern or interesting composition, I like adding hand-drawn bits. Eight Blogs I have Created and (in All but One Case) Abandoned

1. Kate's Weird Website This was, I think, a blog I made in my year 9 IT class when we learned to 'make a website' (i.e. use a free online website template -it was called something like freespace). I have a vague memory of a grown-up at some stage in the process (either an IT teacher or my mum, when I worked on it at home during my designated computer hour) being unsure about the name of my website -they were concerned that it was too negative and probably worried that it was a symptom of low self-esteem. This annoyed me at the time, because revelling in being 'weird' was a key part of my personal brand as an Emily Strange-loving, black and red striped sock wearing teen. Also, it was alliterative. KWW (imagine if my name had been Wendy or Wren? Oh, well!) had red text and borders on a black background and consisted of a blog, a page listing my favourite bands (Green Day, Good Charlotte, Alkaline Trio) and a couple of placeholder pages that would remain perpetua...
